McCollin Bryan

McCollin Bryan first launched the Coffee Bean table in 2002 and it has continued to be one of their bestselling designs worldwide. Each coffee table is made from a hard plaster in the Italian method of scagliola. It is finished by hand and pigmented individually resulting in their unique appearance.

Due to its sensitive nature, scagliola it not appropriate for the exterior use or wet areas, but the special epoxy resin version is suitable for both indoor and outdoor.

The Stria bench is another spectacular scagliola piece inspired by the process of extrusion, and the monolithic shapes that occur in the resulting form. Stria bench comprises three parts that can be arranged to create different sequences that expose the striations in the cross-sectional profile.

Don McCollin and Maureen Bryan’s partnership, formed in 1988, allows their individual design talents to spark off each other. Key to their practice is their interest in material, form and function through the use of cast resins and plasters combined with metals, wood and acrylic. Working with traditional materials they create bold and inventive contemporary pieces.
Just like their famous Coffee Bean table, this oval Pebble table is cast in Scagliola.
Scagliola (pronounced “scal-y-oh-lah”) is a centuries-old technique for creating surfaces that mimic fine marble and other noble materials. This decorative man-made plaster was known since Roman times and became popular in the 18th century. It can be used for sculpture, walls, columns, floors, fireplaces, table tops and bespoke furniture. As it has emerged as a self-sufficient art, with masterpieces highly appreciated, we never call it fake, imitation, or faux marble: it is an imaginary marble.

First made in 2008 in scagliola, the Bobbin table is now produced in our innovative eco epoxy resin. The hyperboloid form, popularised by Swiss designer Willy Guhl in 1950’s, is topped with a mirror which transforms the brutal shape to an elegant piece of furniture.

Based on the Italian method of making scagliola, McCollin Bryan have produced a collection of sculptural table designs.
The piece complements the irregular design structure with aesthetically-pleasing tessellation of the repeated triangular shapes.
The surfaces have a natural looking patina and are slightly pitted in places. Every piece is pigmented individually and made by hand to order.

McCollin Bryan’s Minty Table is now made using bio-based resin formulated with renewable raw materials, incorporated with a resin by-product from their Lens tables to be mindful of the circular economy. It carries the same design impact as its predecessor in Scagliola plaster but is suitable for outdoor use due to the naturally hard-wearing properties of the materials.
The bio-based resin used in this piece is certified by the USDA BioPreferred Programme for reducing the environmental impact caused by petroleum-based resins, and the manufacturers are committed to participating in the “1% for the Planet” initiative, donating 1% of gross sales to environmental causes.

The Longbeam console table consists of contrasting heavy Scagliola benches on thin Perspex supports. This asymmetric arrangement of weight creates an optical illusion that questions the perception of balance and structural impact.
