In their work, McCollin Bryan are best-known for their use of fine plaster known as Scagliola. It produces a striking finish, as well as encouraging a tactile and emotive response to their designs. The nature of working with these materials allows the team to forego industrialised processes and instead work in an instinctive, artisanal style that focuses on hand-crafting.
McCollin Bryan first launched the Coffee Bean table in 2002 and it has continued to be one of their bestselling designs worldwide. Each coffee table is finished by hand and pigmented individually resulting in their unique appearance.

Don McCollin and Maureen Bryan’s partnership, formed in 1988, allows their individual design talents to spark off each other. Scagliola (pronounced “scal-y-oh-lah”) is a centuries-old technique for creating surfaces that mimic fine marble and other noble materials. This decorative man-made plaster was known since Roman times and became popular in the 18th century. It can be used for sculpture, walls, columns, floors, fireplaces, table tops and bespoke furniture. As it has emerged as a self-sufficient art, with masterpieces highly appreciated, we never call it fake, imitation, or faux marble: it is an imaginary marble.

The inspiration for Tallis coffee table came from looking at the stained glass. The Tallis tables are hand cast in a selection of tinted & clear resins, their colour & reflective qualities are intensified with their faceted shape.

These minimal geometric form cast in scagliola is a nod to an era at the end of the 19th century when this material experienced a new peak in popularity and when Two Temple Place was built.

McCollin Bryan’s Minty Table is now made using bio-based resin formulated with renewable raw materials, incorporated with a resin by-product from their Lens tables to be mindful of the circular economy. It carries the same design impact as its predecessor in Scagliola plaster but is suitable for outdoor use due to the naturally hard-wearing properties of the materials.
The bio-based resin used in this piece is certified by the USDA BioPreferred Programme for reducing the environmental impact caused by petroleum-based resins, and the manufacturers are committed to participating in the “1% for the Planet” initiative, donating 1% of gross sales to environmental causes.

Upward growing stalagmites form in natural caves over a very long period of time, about 1 centimetre per 100 years. These mysterious rock, lava or ice formations served as the Inspiration for our Stalagmite candlesticks, which can be used alone or in picturesque groups of three pieces.

Pi Table, the very recent McCollin Bryan’s creation, is a console table with patinated brass plated base and a highly polished resin surface. Designers’ passion for casting in resins and other materials is driven by the desire to create objects that intrigue the user with evocative surfaces. Capturing soft ripples frozen in time, this piece is cast subtle depths of indigo tones. The sinuous texture provides a sharp contrast to the basic geometric form of the base.
When mixing and pouring the resins, meticulous care is taken to achieve a perfect colour and finish. The pieces are cured in moulds, then painstakingly polished to achieve a high shine. During the assembly of the resin pieces, detailed quality control measures ensure that each piece looks effortlessly constructed.
